Work on the brand new Travelodge hotel at Providence Place in West Bromwich is now underway. As we reported back in July, around 100 new jobs are set to be created by the £5m development on the brownfield site.

Bromsgrove-based commercial property developer and contractor, Hinton Group, which has developed more than 70 Travelodge hotels with more than 6,000 bedrooms, is undertaking the West Bromwich development. Hinton director Andy Elwell and development director Jon Hinton, joined Sandwell Council leader, Councillor Steve Eling for the breaking of the ground at the site.

Welcoming the beginning of construction on the site, Councillor Steve Eling said: “This is great news for Sandwell. The Travelodge will create new jobs for local people, complement the adjacent office buildings and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of West Bromwich town centre.”

Mr Elwell said: “It’s exciting to see the Travelodge development in West Bromwich get underway, providing the town with a much-needed facility in a key location.

“I am sure it will be a welcome addition to the regeneration of West Bromwich town centre and also a convenient hub in its prime location with direct access to the M6/M5 links and Birmingham city centre. We expect work to be completed in Q2 2017.”

The 78-bed Travelodge is yet another example of the ongoing regeneration of West Bromwich. The Sandwell town has undergone significant re-development in recent years, including the opening of the New Square Shopping Centre and Tesco, the new college campus and leisure centre, and the creation of hundreds of new homes.

The Travelodge hotel will have on-site car parking and a bar café. It will also benefit from the town’s shops, restaurants and cafes, a cinema and gym, all less than a ten minute walk away for its customers.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in 2017 and once operational the hotel will create 25 full and part-time jobs. During construction the development will support a further 80 jobs.
